# Market Resolution & Settlement

Every prediction market has predefined rules that determine how the final result is resolved.

Always review the market's **Resolution Rules** before trading.

### Resolution Rules

Each market should clearly specify the conditions used to determine the winning outcome.

Depending on the market, this may include:

* Market question
* Resolution date and time
* Resolution source
* Exact conditions for YES and NO
* Reference price or data source
* Treatment of delays, cancellations, or exceptional events
* Additional market specific conditions

Example:

> Will BTC be above $100,000 at 08:00 UTC on September 30?

The Resolution Rules may specify:

**Observation Time**

September 30, 08:00 UTC

**Resolution Source**

Binance BTC/USDT 1-hour candle close price.

The exact resolution source and observation method are specified in each market's Resolution Rules.

**YES Condition**

BTC reference price is above $100,000 at the specified observation time.

**NO Condition**

BTC reference price is at or below $100,000 at the specified observation time.

The market specific Resolution Rules always determine the final outcome.

### Market Closing

The trading close time may differ from the time at which the event is officially resolved.

### Resolution

After the relevant event has occurred, the market result is determined according to the published Resolution Rules.

Once the final result is confirmed, the market becomes resolved.

**Resolution Timing**

A market may not resolve immediately after trading closes.

Resolution timing depends on the type of event and the data required to confirm the final result. Automated price-based markets may resolve shortly after the observation time, while markets requiring external or manual verification may take longer.

### Settlement

For a standard binary market:

| Position | Market Resolves YES | Market Resolves NO |
| -------- | ------------------- | ------------------ |
| YES      | $1 per share        | $0                 |
| NO       | $0                  | $1 per share       |

For a Category Market, shares of the winning outcome settle at $1, while shares of losing outcomes settle at $0.

**Settlement is processed automatically after the market is resolved, and settlement proceeds are credited in USDC. No manual claim is required.**

### Cancelled, Invalid, or Unresolvable Markets

Certain events may become impossible to resolve according to the original market rules.

Examples may include:

* Event cancellation
* Event postponement
* Missing or unavailable data
* Ambiguous final results
* Failure of the specified resolution source
* Incorrect or incomplete market configuration

If a market cannot be resolved normally, it may be cancelled or declared invalid according to its applicable market rules.

The settlement or refund treatment for affected positions will follow the rules specified for that market.

### Resolution Source

Markets may rely on external data sources to determine the final result.

For price based crypto markets, this may include a specified price index, exchange price, oracle, or another predefined reference.

For sports markets, this may include an official competition or approved results provider.

The applicable source will be displayed in each market's Resolution Rules.
